Bill learnt to play the Clarinet at school first, aged eleven, and took an early interest in American Big Band and Jazz of the 1940’s. After leaving school he taught himself to play the Saxophone, soon picking up on the New York session players of the day. He started to play with London based pop/progressive bands and through the staff at Surrey Sound recording studio found himself starting a long semi-pro career as a session player.
His work over the years has included playing for singers Lesley Garrett and Carl Raccah, Australian recording artist Kim Hart, West End stars Claire Moore and Jessica Martin,Martin Smith, Tina Charles and Peter Aitkin at Garage Studios, Bob Cranham and Gavin M Cox, as well as many Chappels Music Library sessions that have been used on television and radio broadcasts.
Bill currently also gigs with vocalist Phil Charles as part of The Corner Club, playing swing and jazz. He also plays with function band Fat Cats and occasionally performs with up and coming artist Sally Cranham.
To be asked to step into the NJR Horns in September 2008 was a delight for Bill as not only has he enjoyed the music of Phil Collins for many years, but it also gave him the opportunity to work again alongsideSteve Brothwood as they did in an early version of the Blunter Brothers' funky BB Horns nearly 15 years ago.
